Wish upon a star – Walt Disney team was deeply correct

Tonight I happened to hear one of my favourite songs growing up as a child – “When you wish upon a star“.  I remember always humming this tune on demand – the music was inspiring and haunting; the lyrics easily remembered, always leaving a positive feeling.  I would often look at stars at night in my youth and with this song playing in my head.

Wish On a Star“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you”

Two Things I Discovered About Wishing on a Star

It was much much later that I discovered two things – Firstly, this song was actually the main theme from Walt Disney’s Pinocchio.  This was not one of my favourite Disney movies, but I new the main highlights – Wooden doll get transformed into a partial child, his nose grows when he lies, Jiminy Cricket  was a cricket, and Pinicchio rescues his father Geppetto from a whale.

pinicchioMy second discovery was deep – While absorbing one of Dr Jordan Peterson lectures (see link below – he reviewed in depth the mythological meanings in the Pinocchio movie ) – I learned something I had known all along – “Wishing upon a star” was not wishful thinking – rather that it was an artistically and eloquently phrased, brilliantly contagious and uplifting way to say set a ‘high’ goal in your life – aim for it and it will come to you.  If you set a meaningful goal and make sure you really want it, your biological machinery and your rational thinking will align and get you closer to the goal.  (Read how setting a meaningful goal is more important than being happy here.)

Disney was coding wisdom into Music, Stories and Film

Unsurprisingly, this wisdom is already in the bible:

Matthew 7:7  – “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Walt Disney and his team had compiled into musical and lyrical ‘code’ a fundamental wisdom.

I enjoy Dr Peterson’s lectures – but The Disney team have got the edge on the music and story.

Wish Upon A Star

Read the lyrics carefully – see what I mean?

Of course, feel free to hum a long or sing if you like.  It is, after all, a great song too.

When you Wish Upon a Star

“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those to love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true.”

Recompiled Wisdom

There are many ways to compile and ‘code’ the wisdoms in the bible and other ancient texts.

Just open your eyes – and hum along if its ‘code’ from Walt Disney company.
